Quick Answer
APC vs. ERGO NEXT: The Quick Answer
APC and ERGO NEXT both provide Professional Liability and General Liability coverage for coaches, but they differ in policy form, limits, included protections, exclusions, and price.
APC Professional membership is $275 per year and includes $2 million per occurrence / $4 million aggregate Professional Liability and General Liability coverage. Both are occurrence-based, and defense costs are outside the liability limits.
The ERGO NEXT Deluxe E&O + General Liability configuration we reviewed was $869.04 per year. It provides $1 million per claim / $2 million annual E&O coverage and $1 million per occurrence / $2 million aggregate General Liability. E&O is claims-made, while General Liability is occurrence-based. Defense costs are outside the liability limits.
ERGO NEXT also includes $100,000 of Cyber coverage in the Deluxe E&O package and unlimited blanket Additional Insureds at no extra charge.
Β
APC offers optional Cyber coverage for $149 per year, with $100,000 per privacy claim and a $250,000 aggregate limit. APC also includes separate protections such as Client Accident Protection, Identity Theft Protection, and Assault & Battery coverage that were not included in the ERGO NEXT configuration we reviewed.
APC vs. ERGO NEXT
Compare the policy features that may matter most when choosing liability insurance for your coaching practice.
The two options differ substantially in liability limits, Professional Liability policy form, included protections, property coverage, Cyber coverage, and annual price. APC provides higher Professional and General Liability limits and occurrence-based Professional Liability, while the ERGO NEXT Deluxe E&O configuration includes Cyber coverage and pairs claims-made E&O with occurrence-based General Liability.
ERGO NEXT information reflects the Life Coach quote and coverage details reviewed in September 2026. The $869.04 annual amount reflects the Deluxe E&O and General Liability configuration and does not include the optional property package. Coverage, pricing, eligibility, and policy terms can change. ERGO NEXT has not reviewed, authorized, sponsored, or endorsed this comparison.
Where APC and ERGO NEXT Are Similar
Although the two options differ in several important ways, they also share some useful features for coaches looking for Professional and General Liability protection.
Professional + General Liability
Both options provide Professional Liability and General Liability coverage for coaching businesses.
Defense Costs Outside the Limits
Both keep defense costs outside the liability limits, so covered legal defense expenses do not reduce the stated liability limit available for settlements or judgments.
Unlimited Additional Insureds
APC Professional and Premium include unlimited Additional Insureds at no extra fee. The ERGO NEXT General Liability quote reviewed also provides unlimited blanket Additional Insureds at no additional charge.
Cyber Protection Is Available
Both can provide Cyber protection. ERGO NEXT includes $100,000 of Cyber coverage in the Deluxe E&O configuration reviewed, while APC offers Cyber Protection as a $149 annual add-on.
These similarities are important, but the differences in liability limits, Professional Liability policy form, included protections, exclusions, property coverage, and annual cost are where the two options begin to separate more clearly.
Where APC and ERGO NEXT Differ
The biggest differences are in Professional Liability policy form, coverage limits, included protections, exclusions, property coverage, Cyber structure, and annual cost.
1. Occurrence vs. Claims-Made Professional Liability
APC Professional Liability is occurrence-based. Coverage is tied to when the incident happened, not when the claim is made. ERGO NEXT E&O is claims-made, meaning the policy generally must be active when the claim is reported, subject to the policy terms and any extended reporting provisions.
2. Liability Limits
APC provides $2 million per occurrence / $4 million aggregate for both Professional Liability and General Liability. The ERGO NEXT Deluxe configuration reviewed provides $1 million per claim / $2 million annual for E&O and $1 million per occurrence / $2 million aggregate for General Liability.
3. Professional Liability Deductible
The ERGO NEXT Deluxe E&O quote includes a $2,000 deductible. APC Professional Liability does not use that same deductible structure for the coverage shown in this comparison.
4. Client Accident Protection
APC Professional and Premium include separate Client Accident Protection with $25,000 in medical benefits, up to $50,000 in accidental death, dismemberment and paralysis benefits, and a $500,000 aggregate. ERGO NEXT does not provide a separate participant or client accident benefit in the configuration reviewed, although its Deluxe General Liability package includes $15,000 per person in Medical Payments.
5. Assault & Battery and Sexual Misconduct / Abuse
APC includes a $25,000 Assault & Battery benefit and offers optional Sexual Misconduct & Abuse coverage for $169 per year. In the ERGO NEXT Life Coach quote reviewed, Assault & Battery is excluded under both E&O and General Liability, and Sexual Abuse / Misconduct coverage is excluded with no option to add it.
6. Business Property and Business Income
APC Professional and Premium include $10,000 of Business Personal Property and $10,000 of Business Income / Extra Expense. ERGO NEXT offers business property through a separate optional property package. The configuration reviewed included $26,000 of Business Property Loss plus Business Income Protection.
7. Cyber Coverage Is Structured Differently
ERGO NEXT includes $100,000 aggregate Cyber coverage in the Deluxe E&O tier, with a $1,000 deductible per claim. APC offers Cyber coverage separately for $149 per year, with $100,000 per privacy claim and a $250,000 aggregate limit.
8. Annual Cost
APC Professional is $275 per year. The ERGO NEXT Deluxe E&O + General Liability configuration reviewed totals $869.04 per year. Even with APCβs optional $149 Cyber coverage added, the combined APC cost is $424 per year.
The main takeaway: ERGO NEXT combines claims-made E&O and occurrence-based General Liability in the configuration we reviewed and includes Cyber protection within its Deluxe E&O tier. APC uses occurrence-based Professional and General Liability, provides higher liability limits, includes several additional protections, and has a lower annual cost in this comparison.

Which May Be the Better Fit for You?
Both options can provide Professional and General Liability protection for coaches. The better fit depends on the type of provider you prefer, the way your practice is structured, the policy form and limits you want, the protections included, and the price that makes sense for you.
APC May Be a Better Fit If You:
- Want coverage designed specifically for coaches, with built-in multimodality options for practices that combine more than one eligible coaching, wellness, or holistic service.
- Want $2M / $4M Professional Liability and General Liability limits.
- Prefer occurrence-based Professional Liability, where coverage is tied to when the incident occurred rather than when the claim is made.
- Want included protections such as Client Accident Protection, Identity Theft Protection, and Assault & Battery coverage.
- Want $10K of Business Personal Property and $10K of Business Income / Extra Expense included rather than purchasing a separate property package.
- Want a lower annual cost, even if you choose to add APCβs optional Cyber coverage.
ERGO NEXT May Be a Better Fit If You:
- Prefer working with a larger small-business insurer that serves many industries and offers coaching coverage within a broader commercial insurance platform.
- Are comfortable with claims-made E&O paired with occurrence-based General Liability.
- Prefer having $100K of Cyber coverage included within the Deluxe E&O package rather than purchasing it separately.
- Want a General Liability Medical Payments benefit of $15K per person.
- Prefer the option to purchase a separate property package with a higher Business Property limit.
- Are comfortable with the limits, deductibles, exclusions, and higher annual premium in the ERGO NEXT configuration reviewed.
The decision is not simply about finding the lowest premium. Compare the type of insurance provider you prefer, how the policy responds when a claim occurs, the limits available to protect you, what is included in the price, and whether the coverage fits the way you work with clients.

The Biggest Policy Difference: Occurrence vs. Claims-Made
APC and ERGO NEXT both offer Professional Liability protection for coaches, but the coverage is structured differently. The timing of the incident and the claim can make a significant difference.
ERGO NEXT: Claims-Made E&O
With claims-made Professional Liability / E&O, coverage generally depends on both when the incident occurred and when the claim is reported. If a claim is reported after the policy ends, coverage may depend on the policyβs retroactive date, continuity requirements, or any extended reporting coverage that has been purchased.
APC: Occurrence-Based
With occurrence-based Professional Liability, the key date is when the incident happened. If it occurred while the policy was active, a claim reported later can still fall under that policy period, even after the policy has ended, subject to the policy terms.
Why this matters: The difference is not simply when you buy the policy. It is how long that policy may continue to respond to an incident that happened while you were insured. With APCβs occurrence-based Professional Liability, coverage follows the incident date. With ERGO NEXTβs claims-made E&O, maintaining continuous coverage and understanding the claim-reporting requirements can be especially important.
Coverage is subject to the terms, conditions, limits, exclusions, eligibility requirements, and reporting provisions of the applicable policy.
